In Craig Bailey's one-act play "The Mockingbird's Nest," elderly shut-in Daisy shares her home with her adult daughter and caregiver Robyn. But something's not quite right. Daisy's convinced Robyn isn't her daughter at all, rather an artificial intelligence sent to spy on her like some "electronic eye."
When Daisy suddenly defies expectations during a disturbing outburst, Robyn is forced to take action that sends the story into a tailspin.
Running approximately 25 minutes, "Mockingbird" is a two-character thriller in the vein of Netflix's "Black Mirror" that explores themes of loss, regret and the subjective nature of memory — all within a modern context of technology run amok.
Simple to produce on a small, nearly-bare stage, the play offers two textured characters for older female-identifying actors. Thought-provoking and rich for interpretation, it's a play that inevitably leads to discussion and debate among those who experience it.

Craig Bailey wrote, produced and published his first one-act while he was a teenager. In the decades since, he's played roles in many community theater productions in his native state of Vermont, and has appeared in regional television commercials and independent films.
His other works include "Mitch Maclay Sings Just for You." A one-act inspired by his experience working in small-market radio in the 1980s and '90s, "Mitch" was named Best One-Act at Firehouse Center for the Arts' 20th Annual New Works Festival in Newburyport, Mass.
He's the producer and host of "Floydian Slip," a weekly syndicated radio show devoted to rock band Pink Floyd, which is heard on more than 110 stations. And he's the developer of Read My Play, a free script exchange service for playwrights.
A web developer and partner at Root802, Craig lives in Shelburne, Vt.
